Rapid e-learning

Rapid e-learning emerged as an important trend from the e-learning market with the dawn of conversion and expansion tools of PowerPoint and Flash in 2003-2004. E-learning has been expanding rapidly the last decade, with the eminent drawback of its complexity of development. It’s hard and expensive to build online courses from scratch.

Hence the idea of recycling existing resources like Powerpoint presentations, and transforming them into e-learning courses instead of redoing everything with other tools.

Rapid e-learning usually begins of someone creating slides in Powerpoint and recording narration on top of them. Then they will add tests, collaboration between the slides and other additions. The whole package (mostly an Adobe Flash file) is sent off to a learning management system or a website.

Why rapid e-learning?

Rapid elearning is a way to build e-learning courses that cater to the following needs:

  • Very fast transfer of knowledge (organisational learning)
  • Occurs in short bursts without having to leave the workplace
  • Fast to develop (and at a low cost)
  • Has a real impact on performance

Rapid e-learning with Articulate or Adobe Presenter

Adding an off-voice or expert video in PowerPoint isn’t enough to make a decent rapid e-learning module. That’s why special tools have emerged to quickly create quality e-learning modules. The rapid e-learning industry is led by Adobe Presenter and Articulate Presenter.
